About this camp

The iRIDE Academy at Rice University is a hands-on summer program designed to introduce middle school students (6th-7th grade) to the diverse field of engineering. Participants engage with challenging engineering projects, hear from engineers and college students about their work and educational pathways, and tour engineering research laboratories. The program emphasizes the engineering design process, culminating in a capstone project where students work in teams to address real-world problems affecting their community. Through rotating topics and guest presenters, students become familiar with engineering accomplishments and learn how engineering impacts daily life. The academy aims to increase students' awareness of and interest in engineering careers and influence their educational path toward a STEM endorsement in high school.
